MorelBorn in Argentina, Jorge Morel has lived and worked in New York City for many years. Through his original compositions and arrangements, Morel has substantially added to the existing repertoire for classical guitar while consistently challenging traditional, technical, and stylistic limitations.

His love for the Latin American rhythm textures and sophisticated jazz harmonies permeates his work, which has been recorded by such artists as John Williams, The Assad Brothers, Pepe and Angel Romero, and Christopher Parkening. Morel himself has also created an extensive library of solo recordings on both major and independent labels such as RCA, Decca, Guitar Masters, and Luthier Music. Notable recordings are The Warm Guitar (1961), The Artistry of Jorge Morel (1968) and Jorge Morel Plays Broadway (1982). The recording Virtuoso South American Guitar (1981) features his own compositions such as Malambo, Canción, Choro and Danza Brazileira, for which Morel is best known.

Jorge Morel made his debut at Carnegie Hall in New York City in 1961 followed by appearances at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall in New York, Queen Elizabeth Hall and Wigmore Hall in London, National Hall in Dublin and Suntory Hall in Tokyo. His performances have been enthusiastically received in many countries including Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, France, Holland, Italy, Norway, Poland, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Finland, Greece, Singapore, Germany and more.

Morel's musical career began in Argentina, where he studied in the Academy of Professor Pablo Escobar in Buenos Aires and later joined Escobar in radio and concert performances. After moving to New York City, Morel performed nightly at The Village Gate, owned by Art D'Lugoff who became his manager for a period of three years. Morel was represented by Columbia Artists Management for 7 years in the 1970's, touring throughout North America in 70 concerts a year.
